Late afternoon winter sun is always a treat. This was special though, streaming through the front window of Collins Pub, bathing this couple with golden light. Collins Pub is on 2nd Avenue at the eastern edge of Pioneer Square and just a few doors north of the Smith Tower Building. Their web site boasts over 20 microbrew beers on tap and apparently you need to be a "left-handed" drinker to enjoy a few particular offerings. Not a problem for me as I'm quite ambidextrous when it comes to beer, or wine for that matter.

It's About Light
No, I didn't go in as I was just passing by. I do promise to visit and report at some point in the not too distant future, however. A couple beers on their current list sound intriguing: Ninkasi Total Domination, Russian River Damnation and Fort Brewing Wipeout IPA are catchy names.

Hmmm...I enjoy a good beer from time to time. I will try this place.
It would be interesting to go through their list, one-by-one, but not in the same day!
I believe good beer should be enjoyed with both the left and right hands. When all else fails, a straw will do.
You always have such interesting shots, Chuck. I love these window views. :-)
Flashing red lights appear behind Chuck on his Vespa. Chuck pulls over. Cop approaches Chuck:
Cop: Sir, you are weaving a lot on that Vespa. Had anything to drink tonight?
Chuck: (hic) Only a cupla beerz, Occifer(hic)
Cop: They must have been in five gallon buckets...
Chuck: hic
Love the light. the late afternoon sun does amazing things. Did you ave a beautiful rainbow down your way yesterday around 5?
So doesn't most beer all taste alike? MB
Please do let us know about the place. Great light in your shot. I like the red hand in the image.
Yup! Photography is always about light! Good job here. There's a micro-brewery in the The Villages but I haven't tried it yet.
I wonder what those names mean relative to the beer itself? A couple are fairly scary.
PS - An alligator isn't going to after a canoe...they usually get out of the way of humans. What happens occasionally, though, is if one is swimming in gator-infested area, the gator may think your arm or leg is a fish and take after it.
And they will eat humans.
But normally, you stay out of their face they'll stay out of your face.
Ahhh, good to see the goodness of Lefthand has made it to Seattle. I'm an Eastern Washingtonian who has moved to Longmont, CO and drinks a good bit of Lefthand. Their tasting room is great and always has a couple of cask conditioned selections.
The brewery is actually named after an Arapaho chief (Lefthand or Niwot) who lived in the Boulder area and welcomed the white settlers to the area (which would also be his undoing). He has a number of things around here named after him: creek, a city, a road, a school, I'm sure I'm missing some.
If you ever head into the Collins Pub, hopefully they have Lefthand's Sawtooth Ale or Smokejumper Smoked Imperial Porter. Those are their best in my opinion, but if not, anything from them is pretty good.
People enjoying beer in Key West look rather different than those two rather staid (dare I say dour?) looking people. Perhaps they just discovered Prius's come with no brakes?
Bibi, your Seattle dance card is becoming quite full ... you're going to have a busy summer -:)
Kate, many brew-pubs offer a sampler selection of perhaps 3 oz per sample. This is a good way to "taste" without the side effect of "you" being the carry-out package.
B Squared, ambidextrous is advantageous!
Renee, thank you.
Louis ... hee, hee! Let's hope this is only a fictional plot line. LOL!
Small City Scenes, to answer your question "doesn't all beer taste the same"? No. No more so than all these birds on your blog today look or sound alike. Many distinct flavors. And, of course, some more to one's liking than others.
Luis, thank you. i live for light!
Jacob, yeah, names are interesting things and more about marketing and being memorable than taste, much of the time. Happy to hear the alligators aren't normally interested in socializing -:)
Brad, thanks very much for your first hand information about Left Hand. I've a daughter living in Greeley so make it down that way once in awhile. I'll try to check it out next time.
Conchscooter, "dour" couple ... naw, just pensive. Obviously when you own a modern Toyota there is much to think about and a nice stout helps the process -:)
YES, but... Do they offer Moose drool? http://www.bigskybrew.com/Our_Beers/Moose_Drool
Chuck, you got this to turn out just right. Neon is tricky for me. I wouldn't even have tried to photograph this in daylight.
MrCachet, Seattle is a civilized town and our moose do not drool. LOL!!
Wayne, thanks for your kind words. I think you are overly self-deprecating.
Wow Chuck, you must be in quite a hurry to not stop in for a drink.
When you go there, make sure you have a drink in your right hand and another in your left. :-)
I'm not a beer person at all but I do like this photograph a lot.
I like a good beer buzz, especially after a hard day at work. This looks like the place I could sit and lounge in the late afternoon sunlight and enjoy my pint of ale.
Cheers!
Ele
I love neon signs and that one is unique! The golden light calls you in but "wipeout IPA" sounds dangerous.
Three Rivers Daily Photo
Left Hand has sponsored a race or two that I've run. My husband loves it for the free post-race drinks that I just can't stomach.
I really like the graphics of their sign. The symbol comes from something in Irish history but I don't know the background. When I lived in New York I sometimes hung out at a bar on the Upper East Side called Dorian's Red Hand.
I love that golden light. As a budding photographer I'm really tuned into what light adds to or takes away from things. What an interesting new world.
You have shared another secret with me. If you want more comments on your blog just mention beer!
Speaking of which, I took a customer out for dinner Monday night. I tried a beer called Total Disorder Porter. Good stuff.
Ming, I'll be certain to use both hands!
Ciel, I didn't used to enjoy beer, either. I'm now making up for all that lost time, however.
Ele, yes, but only if the music is not too loud!
Carpeviam, good to know Left Hand Brewing sponsors races. So, it sounds like you get the exercise while your husband get to drink their beer. Nice even distribution of labor there, IMHO!!
Bob, I think you refer to the "Red Hand of Ulster" which was a symbol used in many coats of arms.
Irondad, "Total Disorder Porter" is quite a name. Glad to hear it wasn't total chaos! And yes, you now know my secret. LOL!!
Left handed drinker. Makes me think of the Buffalo Club. Its a game we played a couple of times ona sport trip. You had to drink with your left hand and if somebody caught you drinking right handed you had to down your drink.
Hi CHuck, thanx for visiting and comment, nice shot here!
Well I see I"m not the only admirer. LIght, composition. You're always right on Chuck.
Late afternoon sun is my favorite too. It just takes my breath away!
Love the name of the pub, but love the photo more. At first glance, it seems quite simplistic, but then when you look again, you realise it's not.
