RECORD setting HEAT ...

Wednesday in Seattle all records of heat were obliterated!

In the words of Jeff Renner, King 5 chief meteorologist ...
"Record heat. Not merely for this particular day of the year, but we have experienced the hottest weather ever seen, as measured at SEATAC airport. 103 was today's high at SEATAC, beating the previous all time high of 100, set on July 20th of 1994. That record even extended back to 1891, when records were maintained at the old Federal Building in Seattle. But no longer."
My backyard didn't get quite that hot ... a mere 99.7º. Cool by record breaking standards.

My wife, bless her heart, remembered that laundry could be hung outside to dry. We in modern Seattle usually use electricity to dry our clothes. Clothes dryers produce heat, and that was something we desperately wanted to avoid today. So, I helped out with this experiment by loaning her a couple of light stands and a seamless background support that would allow clothes hangers to experience a slight breeze and record-breaking heat. Amazing. Clothes were dry almost before she and I could escape back into the house ... and I must say I appreciate the fresh laundry smell of this nature-dried laundry.

Our friend Kim, of Seattle Daily Photo emailed with the news that the thermometer in her kitchen was reading 104º at 4 p.m. yesterday afternoon. I can't imagine ... and I don't want to; 86º inside my house was more than enough for me!

May cooler heads soon prevail .............

'Twas laundry day up here in Bellingham, too but I went ahead and used the gas dryer. I like your solution.

It's even on the news in the Netherlands. Keep it cool, Maarten

We rely on our living room thermostat to determine what temperature it is in our house... however the readout said OL yesterday afternoon - which I took to mean "OVER LOADED" apparently the readout doesn't go beyond three digits.

Outside thermometer read 115 degrees in the sun. Good times! :-D

Not that hot here, but I did here from a friend who's in Victoria. He said his wife couldn't tolerate the heat to the point she sat in the bathtub full of cold water yesterday. I'm certain we'll get it sooner or later.

I have to admit, we did do a load of laundry here last night, but as soon as the clothes went into the dryer we went out to eat. Hope you have a more comfortable day today Chuck.

Chuck:

all I can say is very expensive clothes stands. It's very hot here in Vancouver too. We had our hottest day every recorded yesterday at the airport. While it is over 100f in Abbotsford, it is much cooler at the airport where the official temps are recorded.

It's been pretty unbearable, though at this point I'd take 103. lol We topped out at 109 yesterday, breaking not only the high temp, but other records as well.

We are still supposed to see 100-102 today, but the clouds have moved into my area so hopefully that marine air has arrived.

My Vespa GTS' temperature readout changed frequently, showing readouts as low 80 degrees (near the Duwamish River) and as high as 111 (on 35th Ave SW). I've long believed the sensor is near something that gets hot, but even at five degrees high, that's HOT!

By comparison, the apartment was a temperate 92 degrees...

Hot! At least you used it to your advantage!

With the British weather indoor drying is a must, but when I get I do try and pop it outside. Now can you throw a little summer my way.
