Keep Clam

You may be thinking I just hang out on this corner all the time. I don't. Really. However, I do walk past the corner of Stewart Street and Pike Place several times each day that I'm working at the Pike Place Market. Why? To visit my preferred coffee source, Local Color Coffee, which is also located on this corner.

So, it's purely coincidental that I find interesting photos happening in front of me as I go for coffee. Honest. This "clam" was handing out discount coupons for Ivar's Acres of Clams, a longtime favorite Seattle restaurant located on a nearby waterfront pier. Their tag line, by the way, is "Keep Clam". For almost as many years as I can remember, Ivar's sponsored the annual Fourth of Jul-Ivar fireworks show over Elliott Bay. This year, however, leaner economic times caused the restaurant chain to cut back.

How to kiss a clam this big?

Your post has also prompted me to get some coffee!

Keep clam and carry on.

They need to make that into a poster with a crown on it.

Matter of fact, Chuck...If I had some of Ivar's paper I could put a crown on it!

Eamon - just takes another big clam.

MrCachet - perhaps the local paper-sleuth might score some for you.

I still remember the dancing clam commercials. Ivar really left his mark didn't he?

I was sure it said keep calm! Very funny photo.

Interesting picture. But, I'm wondering where are the clam's arms. You say he was handing out coupons--so was he using arms to do that?

I'm not sure what I like best - the photo or the title! You know I like a good pun! Lol :)

Hi Chuck. My family will be in SEA next week visiting my parents and will be at the market. What days are you there, and exactly where?

I remember seeing these guys when I took my small kids to parades. They thought those clams were scary!

This one is posing just for you! Cute!

So it isn't just me who finds the oddest shots just minding my own business. I am thinking Little Shop of Horrors looking at this. Feed me Seymour.

I'm trying to remember if the clams inspired the "Running of the Rainiers (beer)" or it was the other way around...
