Body art

I'm seeing more and more people with tattoos. Personal expression through body art. Mostly I find myself thinking "good grief", or "that must have really hurt". In this case, however, I was quite impressed with the artistic look of this woman's legs. I suppose the ivy background helped. Also, the fact that this was during the lavender festival and on Vashon Island, where mildy-alternative lifestyles are both common and prevalent, contributed to drawing me into this image. I was quite pleased this woman said yes when I asked to photograph her legs. She mentioned that it had been a five year process. It's great art and she is justifiably proud of her unique statement.

And the shoes cap it all off perfectly! Great photo, and I'm left wondering what her face looks like.

I like the idea for fun a wash off one, but not permanent. I'd get bored mainly. It is beautifully done though and she does have a dainty little leg.

I saw my first tattoo on the arm of a fellow by the name of Jerry Rust. He delivered bottled gas to the auto supply store my dad worked in. Not to say that I don't like it, but now... I don't like it.

When I got back from Southeast Asia, I met a fellow at the Naval Hospital that had lost part of his jaw (along with his face) and the Navy had paid to have whiskers tattooed where they belonged to match his rather dark whiskers on the other side. Since then, I see young people with tattoos on their faces and wonder where their head was when they did that.

Super shot and fascinating commentary. I have two friends whose bodies are pretty much covered in tattoos. It's most definitely artwork to them (and it is) and they have a very close and important relationship with their tattooist.

I say if this makes her happy, then more power to her.

My first thought is when she gets a little older, will her varicose veins blend in?

I'm seeing more tattoos in Maine than in NYC. But like you, all I can think of is OUCH and HUH for the most part.
