Post Alley

Post Alley runs between Pike Place and First Avenue. This is one of my favorite parts of the Pike Place Market area and to me has an old world European market feel. The view here is south from Pine Street toward Pike Street in between the Triangle building on the right and Sanitary Market Building on the left. At the end of the street you can see the holiday decorations of colored lights in the shapes of fruits and vegetables which I showed you last Tuesday.

You know, this post finally shed the scales from my eyes about why we have the entire month devoted to Christmas. Nothing to do with religious zeal. It's a blazing attempt to cheer ourselves, with a running start, through the darkness of winter. Maybe old news to you, but never so clear to me as while looking at this post!

Bingo, Elaine. Just like moths, we crave light and warmth. Whether religious meaning is attached or not is immaterial. We're celebrating or encouraging or satisfying a basic human need.

shopping outdoors after dark-- that feels really festive to me, people are in much better moods in these places than in malls shopping.

This reminds me very much of Montpellier France, a hidden gem of a city. Many allies like this swathed in golden light bouncing of the brickwork. I can see why this is a favourite place.
