Maiden captive

The Fremont neighborhood in Seattle describes itself as the "Center of the Universe". Because of this self-ascribed importance the neighborhood strives to be just a bit different. Unique. Odd. Fantastic. Bohemian. Interesting and a bit whimsical with fairy tale characters as neighbors. Rapunzel, the golden tressed maiden from the brothers Grimm story, can be found today still locked away in the north tower of the Fremont Bridge. Crafted as neon art by local glass artist Rodman Miller the maiden lets her hair fall from the tower window ... perhaps hoping some prince waiting below for the opened drawbridge might come to her rescue.

Hi, Chuck. Gee, I never knew about Rapunzel. So she's still waiting for her prince to let her out---why haven't you climbed up?! :<)

How cool. It just reminds me how long it has been since I've been to the Fremont area. Thanks for all the neat stuff you show around Seattle. MB

It might be a bit of a shock when young Prince Charming climbs her golden locks. (lol)

I love that there is a neon art of Rapunzel in the window. Definitely gives that building an interesting character.

Also I love the patina on the building.

Beautiful picture of a maiden in her Golden(blue) tower...
It looks like I would love this neighborhood..
I do love the cooperation of Art and everyday life.

Bibi, Chuck hasn't climbed up to liberate her because he's MY faithful prince :-) He also knows the wisdom of having an affair from afar, even if she glows neon. Penny

What a neat neighbourhood! Seattle must have a sizeable artist district.

The word cosmopolitan is often attached to the wrong places but it ceratinly applies to Seattle. Rapunzel was favourite childhood story. Now of us she would let down her extensions only to lop them off when bored of her would be suitor.

Congratulations on your 2nd birthday.

You are quite advanced for a two year old! Seriously, congrats for sticking to a daily photo format for the past 2 years. Her's to many more!

Chuck, "Louis" found this to be (ahem) an electrifying post...

(Editor to "Louis": If you can't do any better than that, don't even bother commenting...

"Louis" to Editor: I'm going to have a few choice comments about your lineage... )

Beautiful shot Chuck. Makes the one I posted of her from a cloudy day last year look colorless :-) That stripe of yellow above and the beautiful light you are a master at capturing make it really pop with life! I see they've move the video camera since last year and are monitoring the cars instead of pedestrians and bikes now.

This is a seemingly simple shot, at first look, but lots of nice details... Very beautiful.
